Kitchen For One

Jazz improv cooking simulator.

Kitchen For One

The game uses a VERB NOUN text input system to search a database of videos, assembling unique combinations of actions to the recipe/rhythm of your heart ♥️ Reflecting on domestic processes through the lens of enchantment, and twisting them through autobiographical musings of disenchantment, Kitchen For One shows cooking to be a shadowy activity of anxiety and confusion. Kitchen For One also uses this language and personal story to examine the legacy of structural filmmaking through the analysis of Michael Snow’s film Solar Breath. A bold mix to satisfy everyone’s tastes… Original videos are from Scaling Egocentric Vision: The EPIC-KITCHENS Dataset, published under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommerial 4.0 International License.

"So yes. “Kitchen For One” is quite a dish. Two game concepts spiced up with an interesting and intimate story. So grab a spoon and enjoy the taste." - Sebastian Standke

This is a Sand Gardeners project

The Sand Gardeners are conceptual artist Sam Machell and visual programmer Colin Le Duc, sometimes in collaboration with master mapmaker Marc Loths.

They are interested, varyingly, in lost futures, haunted texts, and psychedelic memories of abandoned worlds.

They have exhibited work internationally, across the fields of video games, playful installation, and visual art.
